The Test of Obedience

I was reading through Psalms 105, and verse 19 struck me hard. It says “Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character“. Psalms 105:19 (NLT).

It is one thing for Man to put you through a character test, and it is another thing for God Almighty Himself (your creator, the One from whom no secrets are hidden), to put you through a character test. Unlike the conventional tests in our schools, this test doesn’t have a timetable. However, we have free access to the Area of Concentration (AOC) through the word of God.

From various examples in the Bible, it is evident that God’s test centers round OBEDIENCE. Joseph was tested to see if he would fornicate; Abraham was tested to see if he would obey the command of giving his precious son, Issac, as a sacrifice; Job was tested to see if his faithfulness to God was because of the many blessings of God upon him; the list goes on and on.

The crux of the matter is this: before God blesses us or gives us authority of any kind, He tests our character to see if we are worthy of His blessing or calling. Even Jesus Christ, His precious Son, was tested. The Bible says in Hebrews 5:8-9 (NLT): “Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him”

Dear friends, it is only our obedience to God’s word that can qualify us for that glorious future that has been revealed to us. The good thing is this: we can determine the speed at which we receive this qualification. Israel waited 400 years to be qualified. How long would you have to wait?

We can never rise above our level of obedience. Therefore,  if you think you have stayed in a position for too long, and you assume that it is has something to do with some spiritual forces, it is high time you checked your obedience meter to be super sure that you are not the root cause of your problem.

In the year 2016, we must consciously learn obedience, so that we can continue to grow and be all that God wants us to be.
